Exploring Quantum Physics and Building Connections: My Student Mobility Experience at Prince of Songkla University
Kriesna Harry Pradana participated in the Student Mobility Program at Prince of Songkla University
My name is Kriesna Harry Pradana, a student of the Physics Education Study Program Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.I had the privilege of participating in the Student Mobility Program at Prince of Songkla University (PSU) from March to June 2024. As a student passionate about physics, I was excited to immerse myself in the world of quantum information, optics, and photonics under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. Pruet Kalasuwan. This experience not only deepened my understanding of quantum physics but also provided me with opportunities for personal growth, cultural exchange, and academic development.
The main focus of my program was to work on a project related to quantum physics, a field I had been eager to explore. During the first month, I familiarized myself with the university’s various labs, learning about the equipment and materials necessary for my project. My lab mates were incredibly helpful, guiding me through the process of choosing the lab that best suited my interests. As I started working on my project in the second and third months, I was able to apply my knowledge and dive deep into the research. At the end of the third month, I had the opportunity to present my progress to my advisor and other professors, which was a nerve-wracking yet rewarding experience. I also had the chance to showcase my project at an open campus event, where I presented to visiting high school students. It was inspiring to share my work with younger students and hopefully spark their interest in science.

In the final month, my focus shifted to writing the report for my project. I continued to help my lab mates with their tasks, attended seminars to further expand my knowledge, and spent quality time with my new friends. They took me around to enjoy the local food, which became one of my favorite activities during my stay. Every moment spent with my friends from both UIN and PSU was special, and I learned so much not only academically but also about the local culture, language, and even games.

However, the program wasn’t without its challenges. One of the biggest obstacles I faced was language. Although my English skills improved, I initially struggled with communication, especially since some of my friends also had difficulty with fluency. There were times when I had to ask them to repeat themselves, but over time, I became more comfortable with the language. Another challenge was the pressure of studying new material independently and presenting my progress each week. It was difficult at first, but it pushed me to work harder and become more self-reliant.

Despite these challenges, the advantages of this program were countless. I gained valuable experience, expanded my network, and deepened my knowledge of quantum physics. This opportunity also gave me a huge boost in confidence and motivated me to continue learning and pursuing my academic goals. It was a truly enriching experience, and I’m grateful for the memories, friendships, and knowledge I gained during my time at Prince of Songkla University.
