Starting the Academic Journey with New Enthusiasm, Physics Education Students Join Sospem 2026 – Day One
Learning Orientation of New Student
Yogyakarta, August 26, 2026 — The Physics Education Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta held the 2026 New Student Learning Orientation (Sosialisasi Pembelajaran/Sospem) on its first day, Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The activity took place from 7:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (WIB) and was attended by 40 new students of the Physics Education Study Program. The event was conducted in person at Room 104, Multipurpose Building, UIN Sunan Kalijaga.
This year’s New Student Learning Orientation was officially opened simultaneously across the university by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Institutional Development (Vice Rector I) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Dr. Istiningsih, M.Pd., from the Multipurpose Building. New students in each designated room joined the opening ceremony virtually via Zoom, allowing Sospem participants from various study programs to take part in the university-wide opening together.
Following the opening session, the new Physics Education students participated in a series of activities facilitated by Drs. Nur Untoro, M.Si. and Dr. Ika Kartika, S.Pd., M.Pd.Si. The sessions were designed to help students understand academic life in higher education while preparing themselves for the learning process as university students.
During the Learning Agreement session, students were introduced to various agreements and commitments needed to establish an orderly, responsible, and respectful learning environment. This session provided a foundation for students to understand academic expectations and develop a positive learning culture from the beginning of their university journey.
The next session focused on self-regulation, covering adaptation to the university environment and its academic demands, goal setting, time management, and resilience. Through these topics, students were encouraged to set academic goals, manage their time effectively, face various challenges in university life, and develop the resilience needed throughout their educational journey.
In addition to self-management skills, students also received guidance on social relationships, particularly empathy and communication. These skills are essential for fostering healthy relationships with peers, lecturers, administrative staff, and other members of the university community. Students were encouraged to recognize that success in higher education is determined not only by academic competence but also by the ability to build positive relationships and communicate effectively.
The first day of Sospem marked an important first step for the new Physics Education students in becoming familiar with academic culture, learning expectations, and the social environment of higher education. Through this program, students are expected to become increasingly prepared to be independent, disciplined, adaptive, resilient learners who are able to build positive social relationships.
The 2026 New Student Learning Orientation for the Physics Education Study Program will continue with various other sessions and activities as part of the students’ initial preparation to adapt to university life and pursue their studies at the Physics Education Study Program, UIN Sunan Kalijaga.
