STEM-Based Wave Learning at SMA Muhammadiyah Imogiri: Lecturer of Physics Education at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Conducts Community Service

Imogiri (January 9, 2026) — A lecturer of the Physics Education Department at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Drs. Nur Untoro, M.Si., carried out a Community Service activity at SMA Muhammadiyah Imogiri on Friday, January 9, 2026. The activity was designed as a physics learning session on wave material based on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) approach for twelfth-grade students.

During the activity, Drs. Nur Untoro, M.Si., delivered the topic of waves systematically and contextually. The lesson covered fundamental wave concepts, mathematical wave equations, and their applications in various fields of engineering. In addition, students were introduced to the utilization of wave concepts in several strategic sectors, such as education, healthcare, agriculture, as well as defense and the military.

The STEM approach implemented not only emphasized theoretical understanding but also actively engaged students through a resonance demonstration using a mass–spring system. Through this activity, students were able to directly observe physical phenomena, connect them with mathematical models, and gain a deeper understanding of how physical systems operate.

Throughout the learning process, students showed high enthusiasm. This was reflected in their active participation during the demonstration, their questions, and discussions about wave phenomena and their real-life applications. After the session, students realized that physics plays a significant role in the advancement of science and technology, making it essential to study it seriously.

This community service activity is expected to contribute positively to improving the quality of physics learning in schools and to strengthen the role of the Physics Education Department of UIN Sunan Kalijaga in bridging scientific knowledge with societal needs through the tridharma of higher education
