Physics Learning Media Expo 2024: Science and Technology-Based Innovation for Quality Education

On Friday, December 20, 2024, at 09:00 AM, the lobby of the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training (FITK), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, was filled with enthusiasm from students, lecturers, and visitors attending the Physics Learning Media Expo. This event served as the culminating activity of the Physics Learning Media course taught by Drs. Nur Untoro, M.Si., Ika Kartika, S.Pd., M.Pd.Si., and Iva Nandya Atika, S.Pd., M.Ed. The expo was designed to showcase educational media in the form of physics teaching aids and practicum tools developed through students’ innovative projects.

A wide range of unique and engaging learning media was presented, including:

  • Group 1: Energy Source Demonstration Tool (Solar Panel and Water Wheel)

  • Group 2: Miniature Cable Car Model

  • Group 3: Wind Turbine Model

  • Group 4: Optics Kit

  • Group 5: Carnival Ride Model (Ontang Anting)

  • Group 6: Projectile Launcher

  • Group 7: Miniature Building Elevator (Newton’s First Law)

  • Group 8: Hydraulic Excavator Model

  • Group 9: Port Crane Learning Model

  • Group 10: Simple Steam Engine

  • Group 11: Household Series and Parallel Electrical Circuit Model

  • Group 12: SensiTime Uniformly Accelerated Motion (GLBB) Tool

Students not only displayed their projects but also complemented them with instruction manuals, explanatory posters, and feedback sheets to gather input from visitors. The development process of these teaching aids was directly supervised by laboratory technician Win Indra Gunawan, S.Si., along with practicum assistants from the Galaxy 21 cohort. The students’ hard work and creativity played a crucial role in the success of the event, despite the various challenges encountered during the preparation process.

The expo also functioned as an evaluation platform, where validators assessed the projects based on several criteria, including functionality, safety, durability, and level of innovation. The event was lively and well-attended by students from various cohorts, alumni, lecturers, and students from other study programs. The strong enthusiasm demonstrated that the expo provided not only academic learning opportunities but also inspiration for all participants.

Furthermore, the expo contributed to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, it supported SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting creative and innovative learning practices, SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) through renewable energy projects such as solar panels and wind turbines, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by encouraging the development of appropriate technologies for educational advancement. Through this expo, students not only strengthened their ability to apply physics concepts but also presented creative solutions relevant to the challenges of sustainable development.

The organizing team expressed their appreciation to the course lecturers for their guidance and support throughout the activity. This expo demonstrated that creativity and dedication can lead to remarkable innovations in educational media. The organizers look forward to welcoming participants again at the next Physics Learning Media Expo.
