The Physics Education Study Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Hosts the 7th Particle Physics School in Southeast Asia

The Physics Education Study Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta once again demonstrated its international engagement by hosting the 7th Particle Physics School in Southeast Asia, held on January 20–24, 2025. The event featured leading particle physics experts from the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), Japan, and was attended by students from various countries across the Southeast Asian region.

With full support from the Physics Education Study Program and the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training (FITK), the event served as an academic platform for learning and discussion among students, lecturers, and early-career researchers interested in particle physics. Held at the Integrated Lecture Building (GKT) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, the school offered a series of engaging lectures delivered by distinguished scholars from KEK, including:

  • Prof. Yutaka Sakamura – Particle Physics Theory

  • Dr. Shohei Nishida – Experimental Particle Physics

  • Dr. Koji Hara – Detector Technology

  • Dr. Hiroshi Kaji – Particle Accelerators

Participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam enthusiastically took part in the program. In addition to gaining new insights from prominent scientists, participants also had the opportunity to build academic networks and explore potential collaborations in the field of particle physics.

The chair of the local organizing committee, Norma Sidik Risdianto, Ph.D., expressed his gratitude to KEK and the Physics Education Study Program for their strong support in organizing the event. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s vision to strengthen global academic networks and enhance the quality of physics education in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

The Head of the Physics Education Study Program, Iva Nandya Atika, M.Ed., also highlighted the significance of this event for both students and faculty members. With the successful implementation of this program, UIN Sunan Kalijaga continues to reinforce its role in advancing physics education and research in Southeast Asia, providing young scholars with valuable opportunities to deepen their knowledge, exchange ideas, and expand their academic networks.
