What Can We Do with Physics? An Inspirational Lecture for Students of MTsN 9 Bantul in the Physics Education Program’s Community Service Activity

Bantul, June 19, 2025 – The auditorium of MTsN 9 Bantul was filled with enthusiasm on Thursday, June 19, 2025, when a team from the Physics Education Study Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga conducted a community service activity under the theme “From Physics to Endless Possibilities.” One of the highlights of the program was an inspiring lecture delivered by Rachmad Resmiyanto entitled “What Can We Do with Physics?”, which successfully broadened students’ perspectives on the wonders of physics. The activity also involved lecturers Murtono, Winarti, and Norma Sidik Risdiyanto, along with students Fitriyanti and Dimas Ergi Pranandana.

In his lecture, Rachmad Resmiyanto emphasized that physics is not merely about formulas or numbers, but rather a structured way of thinking. “Physical reasoning trains us to think systematically, logically, and critically,” he explained, capturing the students’ attention. He further highlighted that learning physics means understanding the foundations of technology, ranging from smartphones to satellites orbiting in space. Moreover, he pointed out that the reasoning skills developed through physics are also relevant to social sciences that students may study in the future, such as understanding patterns of human behavior or analyzing data through logical reasoning.

The students showed great enthusiasm, particularly when the speaker related physics concepts to everyday phenomena, such as water filtration systems and hologram technology. “Physics teaches us to ask ‘why’ and to search for answers through logical reasoning. This skill is useful in any field, including when you study history or economics in the future,” he added, stimulating the students’ curiosity.

The head of MTsN 9 Bantul expressed appreciation for the community service program. “His message about physical reasoning is very inspiring for our students, encouraging them to see physics as an important life skill,” he remarked. The activity concluded with renewed enthusiasm among the students, who realized that physics is not only a scientific discipline but also a key to understanding the world and shaping the future.
