National Community Service (PKM): Collaboration between UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, and the MGMP of MTs Science Teachers in Sleman
National Community Service Collaboration
The Physics Education Study Program once again demonstrated its active contribution to strengthening educators’ competencies through a National Community Service Program (PKM) conducted in collaboration with the Physics Education Study Programs of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung and UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, along with the MGMP of MTs Science Teachers in Sleman Regency. The activity was held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, under the theme “STEM Workshop: Sensor Electronics, Qibla Direction Determination Using Google Earth, and HOTS-Based Physics Assessment.”
In this program, the Physics Education Study Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta was represented by Dr. Winarti, M.Pd.Si. and Iva Nandya Atika, S.Pd., M.Ed., who delivered training focusing on the development of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based assessment for madrasah teachers in Sleman Regency. The training aimed to strengthen teachers’ capacity to design physics learning assessments that challenge higher-order thinking, align with 21st-century learning approaches, and correspond with the requirements of the Merdeka Curriculum.
The workshop was attended by 38 MTs science teachers from across Sleman Regency. Participants showed strong enthusiasm from the beginning of the session through the practical activities of designing HOTS-based questions and assessment rubrics. Teachers actively engaged in discussions, problem-solving activities, and simulations on how to design evaluation instruments for physics learning that emphasize contextual and applied higher-order thinking skills.
Through this national PKM initiative, it is expected that a stronger synergy will be established between universities and the MGMP in improving the quality of science education in madrasahs. The lecturers also emphasized that inter-institutional collaboration will continue to be strengthened so that STEM-based learning training and high-quality assessment mentoring can be implemented sustainably, ultimately enhancing teacher professionalism and the quality of science education in Indonesia.
