Lecturers and Students of the Physics Education Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Utilize AR Technology at MTs Yakti Tegalrejo

Tegalrejo, July 24, 2024 – A community service team from the Physics Education Study Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, consisting of Iva Nandya Atika, S.Pd., M.Ed., Dr. Winarti, M.Pd.Si., Joko Purwanto, M.Sc., and Norma Sidik Risdianto, Ph.D., conducted a visit to MTs Yakti Tegalrejo under the theme “Utilizing Augmented Reality (AR) for Science Learning.” The team was warmly welcomed by the school principal and teachers.

The activity began with welcoming remarks from the school principal, Wahyu Mubarok, S.Pd., who expressed his appreciation for the visit. “We are very grateful for the visit from the team of UIN Sunan Kalijaga. We hope this activity will bring great benefits to our students,” he stated.

Following the opening remarks, the program continued with a motivational session aimed at encouraging students’ enthusiasm for learning. During this session, lecturers and students shared motivational messages emphasizing the importance of education, particularly in the field of science. Students were also encouraged to develop clear aspirations for their future. The motivational session was accompanied by educational games, creating a more engaging and interactive learning atmosphere.

The next session introduced the solar system through Augmented Reality (AR) technology. Students explored information about the solar system using an AR application prepared by the team. Through this technology, students were able to visualize planets and better understand their positions and movements within the solar system. The students showed great enthusiasm during this session, eagerly trying the AR application and asking many questions about the material presented.

One student, Dandi, expressed his excitement: “This is very interesting! I can see the planets more clearly and almost as if they were real. It makes it easier for me to understand science lessons.”

At the end of the activity, the school expressed its hope to establish further collaboration with the Physics Education Study Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga. “We hope to collaborate again on various positive activities in the future. Activities like this are very beneficial for the development of education in our school,” said one of the teachers.

Through this initiative, it is expected that students of MTs Yakti Tegalrejo will become more motivated and interested in learning science while also developing the ability to utilize technology in the learning process. This community service activity also represents a tangible contribution of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta in advancing education within the community.
